Slow Food for the Soul on Day 3
Millyberth · Student
This morning some of us woke up nauseous and dizzy but we were ready to start our day. My bunk mates, Armani, Aeryn, and Aniya that live with me in our cabin wanted to start the day off with yoga with Ms. Nanna but we ended up taking a mental health rest morning instead. After we had breakfast it was chocolate puff marshmallow cereal with milk that the galley team prepped for us the night before since we had a quick morning.
Following breakfast and our morning activities we rode the dinghy to shore and that was my favorite part minus that we all got wet. The dinghy is one of my favorite rides and part of our adventure. Then, we went to Slow Food a nonprofit organization and volunteered to feed the homeless. The entire crew worked together cutting, washing, and peeling vegetables. We were getting the ingredients ready to make a Barbados style soup. While some of the crew went to prep our own lunches at the Hayward Farms Market the rest of us stayed and pack the soup in 166 individual containers. A few lucky girls event got to taste the soup! Slow Foods then delivers the soup to homeless in the area and after the staff all shared about the history of Barbados, celebrities that are from here, and the sugar production.
After we got back to the boat we took a break for an hour, then we got to our boat duties. Me and Aniya on interior aka house cleaning. How that looks for us is cleaning the sinks, showers, toilets, floors, mirrors, making the beds, steam cleaning the floors, vacuuming, cleaning cabinets, cleaning walls, and vacuuming call the couches. Even though our interior group is only 2 people it still feels like we can accomplish all of this when we work together. If we work together we can do it all... BUT WAIT... there is always more to do. Never ask Ms. Nanna what can we do next... We both got through it and hoped for the best because its just little task we do each day.
Tonight we have plans to sail to a different island called Bequia. We will take 3 hour shifts in groups of 5 for the next 20 hours. We are going to learn how to navigate and all the students are going to be responsible for steering. It is going to be so fun. I am kinda nervous and scared because I have been one of the seasick people. I hope it is not that bad of a trip. It is always good to think positive. We recently finished eating and it was chili mac made by our student chef Maddie and I actually really liked it. I never tried chili mac so it was good for my first time. I am so excited for the journey ahead and the rest of the trip. I really wish the best of luck for everyone on our voyage.
